There is no magic trick or stick for SEO. Most of this is nonsense; background noise that creates an entirely false picture. As one of our clients put it, "There is a lot of snake oil out there!" Here are the facts.

Typically getting high ranking is not that easy. Otherwise everyone would be at the front page of major search engines within a couple of weeks and boost their sell. You try a couple of techniques and they don't seem to work. So you try something else, and may be you achieve a little success. Then you try another thing. Search engine optimization can often be very time and labor intensive and you may not see results for weeks and more likely months.

The degree of work required depends on the competitiveness of the keywords you are going after. Some keywords are incredibly competitive; solicitors, wholesale, websites, mobile phones and so on, are highly competitive as millions of people searching typing those keywords in the search engines. If you are in a business with less competitive keywords, then you are may be in luck to get highly ranked quickly and easily.

Although how search engines function is based science and search engine optimization is more art than science. Why? Because search engines do not want the outside world to know how they rank websites. You have to just experiment. Ranking a site can be very difficult and tremendously laborious. After all, why should it be easy or even cheap? There is huge competition, so it can't always be easy. If it were easy for your site, then it would be easy for your competitors' sites too, wouldn't it? And after all, there can only ever be one number ONE.

Web designers are not interested in your ranking positions; they are more interested in making the website looking nice. That is where the problem comes and puts effect on your ranking.
Well why should you not trust your web designer to do your SEO work or help with your SEO project? In fact, I know that many of you reading this article because you did just that and have realized the errors of your ways.

Here is one of the more egregious cases I have run across. The owner of a small e-commerce store sent us an email and I called him back to help him with his queries. He has paid a web designing company to do his e-commerce web design work and build him a new site and before beginning he asked to make sure that the site was search engine friendly. Unfortunately that means different thing to different people and web designers and to the design firm it did not mean much. The site they built was definitely not optimized for search engines. The owner asked the firm what it was planning to do about the search engine. They told him it would cost him £5,500 and they would only do good graphics design and create a beautiful site with some nice picture and flash slideshows. From my experience; I can tell you that this did not help the client get good ranking and the site was not optimized either.
This unusual case is more egregious than most, but the first part that your web designing company says it will handle the search engines, and then doesn't; is very common! When I hire a web designer to build a site for me, I explain exactly what I want and you should do the same too.

The web designers pretty much have to say they understand search engines, because all their competitors are saying it.

Many web designers think they do understand, but typically, it's at an "add some Meta tags and submit to the search engines" level. It won't work to get your ranking position up.

I am not being rude to the web designers, but this is the truth about them. They look at making the site nice looking, but they don't really care about the optimized web pages. This is the simple fact attested to many site owners out there. I have seen it over and over. Not trusting your web designer  or team; even if they claim to say they know what they are doing -- may be the first step on your search engines strategy.

Most people follow the wrong way or do not do much in improving the ranking status, although they work hard towards it. That is why SEO companies like us get sales to give professional service.
Each of our clients nearly asked us the same question when they phoned us to speak about their online marketing and search engine optimization. Why my website is not ranking at the first page of Google? We explained and advised in very simple way to make it clear for our clients. However, let's move into the main conversation why a website does not rank very well in the search engines.

I am going to explain the very common reasons here as the reasons can vary from websites to websites.

After a website has been built and you have finished all the internal/on page optimization; you will need to get the search engines to index your site. Without indexing your site; search engines do not know about your site. Say; your name is Mr Brian, but one of your colleagues do not know you and your name, so that colleague would know about you. It is same to a search engine about your website. If you do not register your site with them or do not use other methods to get indexed, you will not be able to be known to them that your site exists. This comes as a first reason why you are not ranking at all in search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN/Bing, Ask and so on.

If you have too many flash videos and slide shows on your site, it will make your site to load very slowly. Search engines want the websites to be informative and fast loading for the visitors, so it is very important that you take a look at your site and see if you can replace the videos or slideshows or even pictures with texts instead of dummies.
Below I am going to give you a list of the common mistakes and what search engines hate, so you will know what are the main reasons of search engines not ranking your site well.

1. Dealing with Frames
Frames cause a number of problems for the search engines. Even most browsers don't like framed web pages.

2. Providing search engines with necessary information
You need to provide search engines with loads of texts and I mean at least 500 words per page. You must have the targeted keywords between the texts and be careful of not over doing it.

3. Fixing invisible navigation system
Many websites have navigation systems that are invisible to search engines and they cause problems for the search engines.

4. Turning off scripting and Java
You can also turn off scripting and Java in the browser and then look at the pages. If the navigation system has simply disappeared or if it is not there, but it does not work, then you have got a problem.

5. Avoiding Embedded Text in Images
Many sites uses images heavily. The over use of images often signs of inexperienced web designers. Putting texts into the graphics has significant drawback. These pages run very slowly across the internet. As there is no text and more of the images, there is nothing to index for the search engines.

6. Sort the titles, Meta descriptions and dynamic web pages
You should have a very good title for each pages. Use different titles for different pages. Use the right forms of Meta descriptions. Make sure to make the pages dynamic which means make the URL dynamic in one way. Fix the dynamic web pages problems.

7. Keyword stacking and stuffing
Make sure to not to overuse the keywords on your site. It is called keyword stuffing. Google recognizes them to be spam. Also do not use hidden keywords. Otherwise it would be considered to be a part of the black hat SEO techniques.

8. Broken links and hidden links
Make sure to run a good test on your site, so you do not have any broken links. Sites or pages with broken links are called dead sites or pages. Do not hide any links. Search engines are smarter than you and me, so they will be able to catch the hidden links and it wouldn't be any good for your ranking.

9. Lack of back links pointing to your site
This is most important part of SEO once you have finished your on page optimization. You need good quality of back links pointing to your site. I am sure good keywords have competition. I am also sure about you will choose good keywords for your site. Make sure to use the keywords as anchor texts on your back links.

10. Back links from different sources with various anchor texts for different pages
Make it natural. Take it easy while sourcing or buying back links. Get back links for different pages on your website. Do not just point all the links to your home page. Get various back links like DoFollow social bookmarks, articles, GOV, ORG sites. Make sure to have relevant sites pointing links to your site too.
Well, the above are not the only reasons why your website is not ranking well or it may just be those reasons. I believe; there are more reasons and I can not explain everything here. To understand why, you will need to understand a couple of things about search engine optimization (SEO). You will also need to understand how the web page is created. Please see below for more explanation:
1. A user types a ULR into his browser or clicks a link, causing the browser sending a message to the web server asking for a particular page.

2. The web server grabs the page and quickly reads it to see whether it needs to do anything to the page before sending it.

3. The web server complies the page, if necessary. In some cases the web server may have to run ASP or PHP scripts, for instance, or it may have to find an SSI (server side include), an instruction telling it to grab something from another page and insert it into the one it's about to send.

4. After the server has completed any instructions, it sends the page to the browser.

5.  When the browser receives the page, it reads through the page looking for instructions and then, if necessary, further complies the page.

6. When the browser is finished, it displays the page for the user to read.

Here are a few examples of instructions the browser may find inside the file:

1. Browser requests a page from web server.

2. Web server grabs the page and reads the instructions in it.

3. Web server complies the page, adding component to specify in instructions.

4. Web server sends the page to web browser.

5. Web browser further complies page.
Thus you can use two kinds of instructions to build web pages:

A. Server-side Instructions

B. Browser-side Instructions

This concept is very important:

Server side = visible to searchbots
Browser side = not visible to searchbots
